About the position

The Department Head for the Process Physics, Analytics, and Engineering Department at Penn State University will lead a team of engineers and scientists in advancing additive manufacturing technologies. This role involves overseeing project development, collaborating with faculty, and mentoring staff while ensuring the department meets its goals in research and development for both DoD and industrial sponsors.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of proposals and projects in metal and ceramic additive manufacturing.
• Provide project updates to sponsors and present research findings at conferences.
• Publish research in peer-reviewed journals.
• Collaborate with CIMP-3D Faculty Associates on multi-disciplinary research.
• Plan and execute departmental staffing and task assignments.
• Recruit and retain department staff and faculty, defining performance expectations.
• Identify professional development opportunities and mentor staff.

Requirements

• PhD in a related engineering or science field.
• Minimum of five years of experience in additive manufacturing.
• A scholarly record with at least three publications in peer-reviewed journals.
• Experience as a team lead on projects in a multi-disciplinary environment.
