About the position

The Process Safety Engineer at Chevron Phillips Chemical is responsible for providing expertise in process safety management and risk management. This role involves ensuring compliance with safety regulations, conducting assessments, and developing strategies to mitigate risks associated with chemical processes. The engineer will serve as a liaison for safety audits and will be involved in incident reviews and safety program management, contributing to the overall safety culture of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Provides advice and counsel on general process safety management and risk management
  • Manages compliance assistance and program development
  • Communicates developments in process safety compliance to management
  • Completes gap assessments for local process safety management (PSM) policies
  • Serves as a site contact for process safety-related procedures or best practices
  • Develops and analyzes process safety metric trends
  • Provides direction on the MOC/PSSR process and participates in risk evaluations
  • Manages the process for filing and maintenance of facility process safety information
  • Serves as site liaison for PSM compliance audits
  • Participates in facility process hazard analysis studies
  • Assists in developing risk mitigation strategies
  • Shepherds unit incident review teams (IRT)
  • Reviews and approves KMS application recommendations for final closure
  • Serves as owner and subject matter expert for various PSM programs

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering with at least 3 years of experience
  • Ability to accommodate participation in rotating on-call duty
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated understanding of the 14 Process Safety Elements
  • Excellent facilitation, organization, and system development skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to effectively collaborate and work with all teams
  • Proficient computer skills

Nice-to-haves

  • Demonstrated ability to lead effective presentations or conduct group training
  • Demonstrated experience participating in hazard analyses, risk analyses, or incident investigations
