About the position
The Process Safety Engineer will be a key member of the corporate process safety team at Chevron Phillips Chemical, focusing on risk assessment services and continuous improvement initiatives in process safety. This role involves facilitating Process Hazard Analyses (PHA) and becoming a Certified PHA facilitator, while also owning Global OE Standards and contributing to the overall safety culture within the organization.
Responsibilities
- Become a Certified PHA facilitator and work with existing facilitators to learn the skills.
- Scribe PHAs for existing PHA facilitators and facilitate PHAs independently.
- Act as the Global OE Standard Owner, responsible for minor changes and comprehensive reviews.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of CPChem process safety work processes.
- Participate as a member of the Process Safety Best Practice Team.
- Engage with industry process safety organizations to add value to CPChem.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of petrochemical manufacturing experience.
- Experience participating in process hazard analyses.
- Strong technical and analytical skills with a solid understanding of petrochemical processes and unit operations.
- Strong people skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization.
- Ability to lead teams and resolve conflicts constructively.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to author technical reports and procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to lead work process development.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience in operating a petrochemical unit daily.
- Experience with major production platforms such as Ethylene, Polyethylene (Loop), or 1-Hexene.
