About the position

As a Process Safety Engineer II at Westinghouse Electric, you will be part of an innovative team dedicated to providing clean energy solutions. This role is situated within Fauske & Associates, LLC (FAI), a company recognized for its expertise in nuclear and chemical reactor safety. Located in Burr Ridge, Illinois, FAI has been a leader in the field since 1980, offering specialized services that reflect a deep commitment to safety and environmental protection. Your primary responsibility will be to provide direct engineering support to operations, focusing on reactive chemical hazards and process safety. You will engage with clients to understand their project needs and develop tailored solutions to address their process safety challenges. In this position, you will analyze and develop proposals, renew business opportunities, and contribute to strategic planning efforts. You will design and execute experimental techniques to gather thermal data for reactive materials, analyze the resulting data, and perform engineering calculations. Your recommendations will guide clients in sizing emergency relief systems and assessing the thermal stability of self-reactive chemicals. Additionally, you will be responsible for technical writing, ensuring that experimental and calculational results are communicated clearly and professionally. Training users on the operation of calorimeters and supporting quality program implementations such as ISO 17025 and ISO 9001 will also be part of your role. You will have the opportunity to contribute to marketing efforts by writing blogs and newsletter articles, while continuously seeking opportunities for process improvements and cost savings. Responsibilities

  • Provide direct engineering support to operations covering all aspects of reactive chemical hazards as they pertain to process safety
  • Communicate with clients to determine project scope required to solve their process safety problems
  • Analyze and develop proposals, renew business opportunities, and contribute to implementing strategic plans
  • Design and execute experimental techniques to gather thermal data for reactive materials
  • Analyze data from associated experiments and use data to perform engineering calculations
  • Make recommendations to clients regarding the sizing of emergency relief systems and thermal stability of self-reactive chemicals
  • Technical writing to communicate experimental and calculational results in a professional manner
  • Provide training to users on the operation of calorimeters and associated engineering analysis
  • Support the implementation of quality programs such as ISO 17025 and ISO 9001
  • Support marketing efforts by contributing blogs and newsletter articles
  • Suggest opportunities for process improvements and cost savings
  • Exhibit an everyday commitment to safety

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Chemical, Nuclear, Mechanical) or equivalent required
  • 3 years of experience in process safety industry
  • Excellent technical writing and oral communication skills
  • Ability to execute projects in a timely manner with the ability to multitask

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with C++, Fortran, Visual Basic, MathCAD, and/or Python preferred
