About the position

The Process Safety Engineer at Formosa Plastics Corporation, U.S.A. is responsible for facilitating the implementation of Process Safety Management (PSM) programs to ensure compliance with all State, Federal, and Corporate regulations, procedures, and policies. This role involves providing expert technical and regulatory support on Process Hazard Analysis, Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA), Quantitative Risk Assessments, Management of Change (MOC), engineering evaluations, gap assessments, and the development of related risk reduction recommendations, as well as all other PSM/RMP compliance activities.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate implementation of Process Safety and Risk Management programs to manage and reduce process safety-related risks.
  • Achieve compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and company safety, health, and security programs/practices.
  • Coach and lead team members for the development of Process Safety Competency throughout the organization.
  • Determine maintenance, operations, and support needs through interaction and provide regulatory interpretation/support.
  • Facilitate regulatory compliance through training, policies/procedures, and Hazard/Risk Analysis.
  • Review system-altering processes prior to implementation and assist in creating/updating operating procedures.
  • Promote cleanliness and order through the Total Housekeeping Maintenance program.

Requirements

  • 5 years of experience in a petrochemical facility including implementation of OSHA's Process Safety Management.
  • Strong background in hazard analysis studies (PHA/LOPA), incident investigations, and Management of Change.
  • Working knowledge of regulatory requirements for Process Safety Management and development of process hazard analysis.
  • Familiarity with PHA related computer software; knowledge of PHA-Pro is a plus.
  • Computer skills including MS Office, Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.
  • Knowledge of refinery/chemical/petrochemical manufacturing processes.
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering; Master's Degree preferred.
