About the position

Wood is currently searching for a Process Safety Engineer - Senior Level to participate on projects out of the Wood Houston - Park Ten campus. The role primarily focuses on providing input to studies pertaining to Process Hazards Analysis (PHA) and Risk Management. The project scope may vary, but it will include design projects for both onshore and offshore facilities. The successful candidate will utilize advanced technical knowledge to perform or manage technical safety study work with minimal guidance and direction. This position may involve serving as the PHA and Risk Management Lead on large and complex projects, ensuring that all safety assessments are conducted thoroughly and effectively. In this role, the engineer will conduct, participate in, or review qualitative and quantitative assessments on a wide assortment of projects. This will result in individual evaluations of potential consequences associated with various project hazards. The engineer will be well-versed in studies ranging from facilitated workshops such as HAZID and HAZOP to desktop assessments that incorporate full Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modeling, including Fire and Explosion Risk Assessments, dispersion, and thermal radiation modeling. The candidate will also have experience in facilitating workshop PHAs, including HAZID, HAZOP, What-If, and Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA). They will be responsible for the preparation and management of Safety Critical Elements and Performance Standards, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA), Formal Safety Assessments, and Safety Cases. Additionally, the engineer will be highly competent in managing third-party consultants in the performance of Formal Safety Assessments. Support for project management personnel will be a key aspect of this role, including regular reporting, scheduling, staffing planning, and coordination. The engineer will initiate regular communication between the technical safety team and all other engineering disciplines to ensure the quality of work and that consistent technical content is maintained for all design documents and data throughout the project.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering or Fire Protection Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum 10 years of technical safety and/or process safety engineering experience.
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
