About the position

AECOM has a position available for a Process Safety Engineer located in our West Region. The selected candidate will join AECOM's EHS + Air practice within the Environment Business Line. The primary emphasis of the group is to support clients with their Process Safety Management (PSM), Risk Management Plan (RMP), and Health and Safety (H&S) regulatory compliance needs for a variety of federal, municipal, and private-sector clients. The successful candidate will be responsible for executing PSM, RMP, and H&S projects for clients in the consulting industry, supporting EHS business development efforts, and developing and maintaining positive relationships with clients to enhance client retention and growth. The successful candidate will have at least 4 years of chemical engineering and process safety experience, and its application, with demonstrated experience in conducting or participating in Process Hazard Analyses of various types, including WhatIf, HazOp, HazID, and/or FMEA. They will also conduct or participate in PSM and H&S compliance audits and inspections at various types of sites for clients to identify potential deficiencies or hazards and determine corrective actions accordingly. The role requires in-depth working knowledge of regulations including OSHA 1910 and EPA 40 CFR 68, recommending improvements in processes, design, procedures, and operating equipment for clients to minimize hazards, and developing and conducting PSM and H&S-related client employee training. Additionally, the successful candidate will provide on-site PSM and H&S support services for various clients, manage PSM and H&S related projects, including budget preparation, proposal writing, technical oversight of project execution, and project invoicing, and mentor junior PSM and H&S professionals to execute various projects. Responsibilities

  • Executing PSM, RMP, and H&S projects for clients in the consulting industry.
  • Supporting EHS business development efforts, including preparation of technical and cost proposals.
  • Developing and maintaining positive relationships with clients to enhance client retention and growth.
  • Conducting or participating in Process Hazard Analyses of various types, including WhatIf, HazOp, HazID, and/or FMEA.
  • Conducting or participating in PSM and H&S compliance audits and inspections at various types of sites for clients.
  • Identifying potential deficiencies or hazards and determining corrective actions accordingly.
  • Recommending improvements in processes, design, procedures, and operating equipment for clients to minimize hazards.
  • Developing and conducting PSM and H&S-related client employee training, including emergency preparedness and mechanical integrity training.
  • Providing on-site PSM and H&S support services for various clients.
  • Managing PSM and H&S related projects, including budget preparation, proposal writing, technical oversight of project execution, and project invoicing.
  • Mentoring junior PSM and H&S professionals to execute various projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering.
  • 4 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education with PSM and H&S experience.
  • Ability to travel up to approximately 2 weeks per month to conduct PSM or H&S audits.
  • Valid US Driver's License and pre-employment driving record verification is required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in chemical engineering.
  • 6 years of PSM survey and H&S regulatory compliance experience and its application.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Process Safety Auditor (CPSA) credentials.
