About the position

The Process Safety Engineer at Jacobs in Boise, ID is responsible for ensuring the safety and compliance of engineering projects within the semiconductor industry. This role involves collaborating with various teams to implement process safety management (PSM) programs, conducting design reviews, and managing safety protocols for fabrication equipment. The engineer will work closely with the Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) department and will be involved in identifying process risks and developing effective solutions to enhance safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to continuously improve the PSM by identifying areas of improvement and process risks, working with engineering and operations teams to develop effective solutions and procedures.
  • Collaborate closely with the Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) department, Facilities Engineering, tool owners, and other teams throughout Boise, ID.
  • Conduct detailed design reviews for fabrication tools to ensure compliance with safety standards and operational efficiency.
  • Support technology node transfer activities from R&D to HVM environments and HVM to HVM by integrating process safety considerations into transfer protocols.
  • Participate in tool safety start-up walks to identify potential hazards and ensure all safety measures are in place before full-scale operation.
  • Manage PSM elements readiness specific to Fabrication equipment.
  • Evaluate changes for impact on existing processes, identify unmitigated risks, and work with engineering teams to develop mitigation plans before approving changes.
  • Support EHS with all elements of the PSM Program related to fabrication, supporting equipment, and chemical delivery.
  • Analyze potential risks associated with chemical reactions and instability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, or related fields.
  • Extensive understanding of Chemistry as it relates to safety hazards, environmental impacts, chemical reactions, and mitigation strategies within the semiconductor industry.
  • Ability to be on-site every day if necessary, living within a commutable distance to the client site in Boise, ID.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in semiconductor manufacturing facility design and supporting tool installation projects.
  • Familiarity with US Engineering Codes and Best Practices.
