About the position

The Process Safety Engineering Manager (PSM) at Clean Harbors is responsible for maintaining the health and safety of multiple facilities in compliance with OSHA regulations. This role involves developing compliance programs, providing technical support, and leading safety audits and investigations. The position requires strong leadership skills and the ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the Process Safety Manager health of multiple Clean Harbors facilities subject to OSHA 1910.119 regulations.
  • Develop compliance programs to decrease facility process safety risks in alignment with OSHA expectations.
  • Provide technical support in implementing good engineering practices related to process safety, mechanical integrity, and risk management.
  • Communicate regulatory requirements concisely to all levels within the organization.
  • Facilitate compliance and project-driven PHA/LOPA studies throughout the year.
  • Lead projects to remediate findings from PHA/LOPA studies and ensure they are completed per regulatory expectations.
  • Facilitate monthly meetings with PHA/LOPA action item owners, drive accountability, and track recommendations to completion.
  • Coordinate facility sitting surveys with third-party contractors and internal engineering teams.
  • Provide oversight and participate in Clean Harbor's Management of Change (MOC) and Pre-Start Up Safety (PSSR) programs.
  • Act as a system administrator within the MOC/PSSR software and train employees on program requirements.
  • Lead multidiscipline engineering teams during OSHA/EPA mandated PSM audits and propose recommendations to remediate deficiencies.
  • Lead incident investigations and root cause failure analysis at manufacturing sites.
  • Field audit and update P&IDs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering preferred.
  • 5-10+ years of hands-on PSM experience in an industrial environment.
  • Ability to influence and persuade individuals at various levels of the organization from a position of no authority.
  • Proficient in SharePoint, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • O&G or Petro Chemical experience is a plus.
