The Processing Archivist at LAIKA is responsible for arranging, describing, preserving, and cataloging the studio's archival collection, which includes a variety of production assets such as stop motion puppets, props, and original art. This role involves collaboration with other archivists to develop processing plans and database guidelines, ensuring that the studio's rich history is properly documented and preserved.

  • Collaborate with archivists to develop processing plans and database guidelines for cataloging production assets.
  • Follow industry best practices to arrange, document, and catalog archival production materials in various formats.
  • Process and catalog new acquisitions, manage accession backlog of existing collections, and photograph assets for database.
  • Handle and provide proper archival storage for assets.
  • Write condition reports, perform data entry, and scan and upload photographs to database.
  • Number and re-house production assets in collection.
  • Participate in Archives outreach programs.
  • Assist in daily operations and other duties as assigned.
  • 5+ years in a similar role, particularly dealing with delicate, irreplaceable production assets.
  • Background in Library Science, Museum Studies, or Fine Art.
  • Knowledge of professional principles, practices, and procedures related to library/archive services and their preservation and presentation of materials.
  • Experience processing, arranging, documenting, and managing archival collections in various formats.
  • Knowledgeable in archival standards while recognizing the dynamic nature of a live collection that is frequently loaned back to the studio for marketing events, shoots, and exhibitions.
  • Ability to apply basic conservation and preservation skills to help maintain the collection.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Strong skills in project management and customer service.
  • Ability to be self-directed, self-motivated, and to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience using spreadsheets and databases including FileMaker Pro with proficiency and accuracy in preparing reports.
  • Ability to adapt and be flexible in a dynamic work environment.
  • Salary is commensurate with skills and experience.
