The Processing Assistant III position is a permanent, part-time role based in Sylva, NC, primarily focused on providing clerical and animal support within the Jackson County Animal Shelter. This position is supervised by the Animal Control Supervisor I and involves a variety of responsibilities that include customer service, clerical tasks, and direct animal care. The role is structured for approximately 20 hours of work per week, allowing for a flexible schedule while ensuring that essential services are provided to the community and the animals in care. In terms of clerical support, the Processing Assistant III will handle general office duties, which encompass acting as a receptionist, answering telephone calls, and routing them to the appropriate personnel. The role also requires composing and mailing various forms of correspondence, such as letters and memos, and completing the daily balance process of monetary transactions, including making deposits as a backup. This clerical aspect is crucial for maintaining the operational efficiency of the animal control unit. On the animal control support side, the Processing Assistant III is responsible for receiving animals into the Jackson County Animal Shelter (JCAS) and completing the necessary documentation associated with these animals. The position involves releasing animals to their claiming owners and assisting with the adoption process for unclaimed animals. Additionally, the assistant will be involved in the vaccination process, performing medical tests, and administering necessary medications to the animals in care. Accurate documentation of all treatments given to the animals is essential and must comply with state law. The role also includes maintaining good relations with various community sectors, including humane and private veterinary groups, on behalf of the Animal Shelter and the County government. The Processing Assistant III may also participate in public health preparedness activities as directed by agency management, which may require working extended hours during public health emergencies. Other duties may be assigned by the supervisor, Health Director, or Deputy Health Director, ensuring that the assistant remains adaptable to the needs of the shelter and the community.
