About the position

The Processing Assistant III position involves providing skilled administrative support within the Public Health Center in Shelby, NC. The role focuses on performing a variety of clerical duties to facilitate the agency's service delivery to the citizens of Cleveland County, including billing for services when appropriate. The position requires cross-training in all clinic clerical services and operates under moderate supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Perform clerical duties including providing information to patients via telephone and in person.
  • Obtain patient demographics, insurance, household, and income information to create Electronic Medical Records.
  • Complete financial screenings and ensure charts are ready for lab or nurse staff.
  • Answer patient phone calls, obtain information, and route calls to the appropriate clinic or nurse.
  • Input data into the computer from encounter sheets for billing and collection of payments.
  • Greet and assist all patrons of the public health center.
  • Schedule and maintain clinic appointments.
  • Retain, file, and manage all patient materials prior to filing or scanning.
  • Fulfill medical release requests.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • One year of experience in office assistant or secretarial work, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • General knowledge of office or work unit procedures, methods, and practices.
  • Ability to use correct spelling, punctuation, and specialized vocabulary; ability to proofread.
  • General knowledge of office accounting and record-keeping procedures.
  • Ability to learn and apply a variety of guidelines.
  • Ability to use a variety of office equipment.

Benefits

  • $15.45/hr compensation based on experience.
  • Full-time position with a standard work schedule of Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM.
