About the position

The e-commerce Buyer - Procurement Specialist will be responsible for sourcing and purchasing products for online stores, as well as identifying materials for wholesale production. This role requires a keen eye for trends, excellent negotiation skills, and a deep understanding of the retail industry to ensure that the product range aligns with brand identity and meets customer demands.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze market trends and consumer preferences to identify potential products and suppliers.
  • Conduct competitor and cost analysis to ensure items are priced correctly and displayed accurately.
  • Source, find, obtain, and procure products from overseas suppliers, considering all variables such as duties, taxes, and transit costs.
  • Negotiate with suppliers to secure the best prices, terms, and delivery schedules.
  • Initiate purchase orders for products, raw materials, and other supplies; forecast demand and production schedules.
  • Use independent judgment to expedite or defer orders based on sales/schedule changes.
  • Ensure compliance with quality, safety, packaging, and timeliness standards by overseas and domestic suppliers.
  • Obtain samples that match specifications and evaluate the quality and suitability of products.
  • Input/track orders and resolve delivery issues with vendors.
  • Recommend advertising opportunities to sales based on inventory levels and purchasing opportunities.
  • Assist with periodic inventory counts.
  • Manage inventory levels to optimize stock turnover and minimize excess stock.
  • Develop product assortments and gift sets, pitch concepts and promotional strategies to the merchandising team.
  • Monitor and analyze sales performance to inform future purchasing decisions.
  • Own the financial outcomes for the performance of the products.
  • Regularly assess performance and revise assortment as needed.
  • Rebid products to increase efficiencies and lower costs.
  • Perform other tasks as required by management.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Fashion Merchandising, or a related field is required, along with a minimum of 5 years of experience in retail buying, or alternatively, a Master's degree in the same field with at least 3 years of experience in retail buying.
  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency in using data analysis tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively negotiate pricing and terms with vendors.
  • Capability to work independently and make well-informed decisions.
  • Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in the Google/Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) is necessary.
  • Knowledge of retail software and inventory management systems would be advantageous.
