About the position

The Procurement Supervisor, Commodities is responsible for the execution of Category strategies and initiatives for food and non-food commodities for use in production for the Shearer's enterprise. This role will work internally with Operations and Planning to manage and solve day to day risks, and manage supplier relationships ensuring the highest level of quality, cost, and service to Shearer's plants. The Procurement Supervisor, Commodities will be based in our Massillon, OH corporate office and report into the Director, Procurement Commodities.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Material Planning, Operations, Transportation, and Vendors to ensure supply meets demand in the most cost-efficient means possible.
  • Identify and develop business continuity plans and recommend sourcing strategies that balance cost, service, and quality in conjunction with our financial plan.
  • Leverage key understanding of logistics, especially rail.
  • Build strong external partnerships to deliver the business objectives and create a competitive advantage.
  • Create and maintain documentation including continuity plans, supplier segmentation, supplier scorecards.
  • Maintain and own all relevant commodity reporting in partnership with Analyst, Commodities.
  • Support development of risk management strategies including the use of futures & derivative tools that ensure price visibility, volatility reduction and market competitiveness.
  • Understand and articulate supply/demand, cost drivers, competing industries, supplier options, regulatory environment, and ensure our sourcing strategies support our current and future needs.
  • Support the delivery of the financial targets including annual productivity budget, value creation opportunities, and cash flow.
  • Leverage market knowledge, operational insights, cost modelling and data analysis to gain critical insights that drive Sourcing Strategies and continuous improvement activities.
  • Manage and mentor the Procurement Analyst, Commodities.
  • Provide development opportunities, coaching, training, and competency building.

Requirements

  • Self-starter with ability to juggle priorities and able to pivot to short deadlines requests in fast paced environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with commodity markets through relevant work experience.
  • Strong analytical background using facts and demonstrate decisions impact to financial plan.
  • Strong experience with Excel (especially pivot tables) a must.
  • Solid personal presence with the ability to interact with confidence and credibility at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to analyze and screen suppliers for financial, supply, and service capabilities.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Education: Master's or Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Economics, Economics, Supply Chain, or Business.
  • Experience: 3-5 years of direct procurement with demonstrated experience with commodity management.
  • Strong knowledge of supply chain and logistics.
  • Demonstrated advanced proficiency using Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience using ERP systems required; Microsoft Dynamics 365 is strongly preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Understanding of utilities and/or oil and gas industries is a plus.
  • Experience using Bloomberg is a plus.
