About the position

The Produce Clerk at Fred Meyer is responsible for creating an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service while maintaining a safe and clean environment. This part-time role involves assisting the department manager in achieving sales and profit goals, monitoring quality assurance standards, and promoting the company's core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the department manager in reaching sales and profit goals.
  • Monitor established quality assurance standards.

  • Promote Corporate Brands to customers.
  • Create an environment that enables customers to feel welcome and appreciated.
  • Answer questions regarding products sold within the department and throughout the store.
  • Gain and maintain knowledge of products sold within the department.
  • Assist with the preparation of produce platters/trays.
  • Inform customers of produce specials and recommend items to ensure they get the products they want and need.
  • Adequately prepare, package, label, and inventory merchandise.
  • Review/inspect products for quality and freshness and take appropriate action with those items.
  • Label, stock, and inventory department merchandise.
  • Report product ordering/shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
  • Display a positive attitude and stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special ads.
  • Ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers are maintained and temperature logs are maintained.
  • Reinforce safety programs by complying with safety procedures and identifying unsafe conditions.
  • Practice preventive maintenance by properly inspecting equipment and notifying the appropriate department or store manager of any items in need of repair.
  • Notify management of customer or employee accidents and report all safety risks or issues, including robbery, theft, or fraud to store management.
  • Work cooperatively in a high-paced and sometimes stressful environment.
  • Manage conflict in a reasonable, nonconfrontational, and cooperative manner.
  • Act with honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information.
  • Follow directions and seek assistance when necessary to resolve customer and business issues.
  • Provide support and assistance through direct interaction with minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults.

Requirements

  • Ability to handle stressful situations.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Knowledge of basic math (counting, addition, and subtraction).
  • Current food handlers permit once employed.

Nice-to-haves

  • Comparable retail experience.
  • Second language (speaking, reading, and/or writing).
