About the position

The Produce Clerk position at City Market involves creating an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service while maintaining a safe and clean environment. The role supports the department manager in achieving sales and profit goals and upholds quality assurance standards. The clerk is expected to embrace the Customer 1st strategy and demonstrate the company's core values, contributing to a positive shopping experience for customers.

Responsibilities

• Create an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service.
• Establish and maintain a safe and clean environment that encourages customer return.
• Assist the department manager in reaching sales and profit goals for the department.
• Monitor established quality assurance standards.
• Embrace the Customer 1st strategy and encourage associates to deliver excellent customer service.
• Demonstrate the company's core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety.
• Promote Corporate Brands to customers.
• Create an environment that enables customers to feel welcome and appreciated by answering questions about products.
• Gain and maintain knowledge of products sold within the department and respond to customer inquiries.
• Assist with the preparation of produce platters/trays and inform customers of produce specials.
• Recommend items to customers to ensure they get the products they want and need.
• Prepare, package, label, and inventory merchandise adequately.
• Review and inspect products for quality and freshness, taking appropriate action with those items.
• Label, stock, and inventory department merchandise.
• Report product ordering/shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
• Display a positive attitude and stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special ads.

Requirements

• Ability to handle stressful situations.
• Effective communication skills.
• Knowledge of basic math (counting, addition, and subtraction).
• Current food handlers permit once employed.

Nice-to-haves

• Comparable retail experience.
• Second language (speaking, reading, and/or writing).
