About the position

The Produce Clerk at Hy-Vee is responsible for providing exceptional customer service in the produce department. This role involves ensuring the cleanliness and safety of the work area, maintaining the freshness of merchandise, and assisting customers with their needs. The Produce Clerk plays a vital role in enhancing the shopping experience by being friendly, approachable, and knowledgeable about the products offered.

Responsibilities

• Provides prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern, and patience in all customer interactions.
• Greets customers in a friendly manner and makes an effort to learn their names.
• Assists customers by escorting them to products, securing out-of-reach items, and loading or unloading heavy items.
• Answers the telephone promptly and provides helpful service to customers who call.
• Works with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
• Practices proper sanitation procedures and ensures the work area is clean and neat.
• Reviews the status and appearance of merchandise for freshness and ensures an adequate product supply is ready.
• Checks in product, puts product away, and may review invoices.
• Removes trash in a timely manner and prepares, finishes, and replenishes product as necessary.
• Orders product and supplies as necessary and prices products for customers.

Requirements

• Less than High School education or equivalent experience.
• Six months or less of similar or related work experience.
• Ability to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or verbal instructions.
• Ability to perform simple addition and subtraction and record figures accurately.
• Ability to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in customer service or retail environment.
