About the position

As a Produce Head Clerk at Safeway, you will play a vital role in the management and presentation of the produce department. Your responsibilities will also include executing marketing plans, performing daily inventory checks, and ensuring compliance with all safety and labeling regulations. You will be actively involved in the selection and preparation of produce, ensuring that all items are fresh and appealing to customers. Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality customer service in accordance with company standards.
  • Train, schedule, and supervise produce clerks to ensure optimum staffing patterns.
  • Manage and achieve department financial budget and goals.
  • Address and resolve customer complaints regarding sales and service.
  • Execute weekly marketing merchandising plans.
  • Perform daily inventory and order necessary supplies.
  • Forecast weekly sales and track daily purchases.
  • Support corporate initiatives through flawless execution.
  • Assist customers in the selection and purchase of items.
  • Inspect all code dated items daily for validity.
  • Write produce department schedule utilizing accurate sales forecasts.
  • Follow all Country of Origin produce labeling requirements.
  • Examine produce for freshness and remove old stock as needed.
  • Inform customers about produce and promote sales within the department.
  • Receive produce deliveries and maintain produce displays.
  • Prepare product for placement on sales floor through the crisping process.
  • Maintain area in accordance with safety and sanitation regulations.
  • Manage price accuracy by applying new price tags and making signs as needed.
  • Clean produce display areas and back room area.
  • Transport bag rolls and twist ties to display areas.
  • Inspect floors for debris and water.
  • Perform temperature checks twice daily.

Requirements

  • Experience in retail or grocery store operations, particularly in produce management.
  • Strong leadership skills to train and supervise staff effectively.
  • Excellent customer service skills to engage with customers and resolve issues.
  • Ability to manage budgets and financial goals for the department.
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations.
  • Strong organizational skills to maintain inventory and displays.
