About the position

The Produce/Lead Clerk is responsible for creating outstanding customer experiences through exceptional service in the Produce department. This role involves establishing a safe and clean environment, achieving sales and profit goals, and supervising all functions and activities within the department. The clerk will support day-to-day operations while promoting the company's core values and ensuring compliance with safety and food regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Create outstanding customer experiences through exceptional service.
  • Establish and maintain a safe, clean, and fresh environment.
  • Achieve sales and profit goals for the department.
  • Monitor and control quality assurance standards.
  • Direct and supervise all functions and activities for the Produce department.
  • Support day-to-day functions of the Produce operations.
  • Encourage associates to deliver excellent customer service.
  • Communicate company, department, and job-specific information to associates.
  • Establish performance goals for the department and empower associates to meet targets.
  • Develop adequate scheduling to manage customer volume.
  • Train and develop associates on job performance including inventory and stocking.
  • Create a welcoming environment for customers by answering questions and recommending products.
  • Offer product samples and inform customers of produce specials.
  • Review and inspect products for quality and freshness.
  • Utilize Fresh Insights for proper sell-through and shrink reduction.
  • Recommend produce items to customers.
  • Develop and implement a department business plan.
  • Work in refrigerated areas and regularly lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Implement merchandising promotional plans for the department.
  • Keep associates informed about current and upcoming promotions.
  • Monitor and control expenses for the department.
  • Maintain awareness of inventory and stocking conditions.
  • Ensure price integrity including shelf tags and promotional signs.
  • Assist in the inventory process and maintain temperature logs.
  • Reinforce safety programs and identify unsafe conditions.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Knowledge of basic math (counting, addition, and subtraction).
  • Ability to handle stressful situations.
  • Current food handlers permit once employed.

Nice-to-haves

  • Management experience preferred.
  • Produce experience.
