About the position

The Produce Lead at SpartanNash is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the produce department in a retail store, particularly in the absence of the department manager. This role involves ensuring that associates are trained, the department is fully staffed, and operations meet company standards and key performance indicators. The Produce Lead plays a crucial role in inventory management, product quality assurance, and supporting the department manager in various operational tasks.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day activities of the produce department in the absence of the department manager.
• Order and maintain inventory while utilizing inventory control procedures.
• Review and validate received orders for quality and quantity.
• Manage a team to ensure product quality and date-sensitive rotation.
• Maintain familiarity with all products and promotions in the department.
• Communicate and execute the weekly and period Flight Plan to company expectations.
• Support the department manager in scheduling, labor control, and payroll management.
• Implement company policies and model core values and competencies.
• Attend daily huddles and participate in meetings as required.
• Maintain a clean and well-stocked department.

Requirements

• High School Graduate or Equivalent (GED) required.
• 0-2 years of retail experience preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Good organization and prioritization skills.
• Strong leadership abilities in a hands-on environment.
• Good knowledge of retail store operations and management systems.
• Proficient in Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

Nice-to-haves

• Ability to communicate in Spanish is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of suggestive selling and products.
