About the position

The Produce Manager at SpartanNash is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the produce department in a retail store. This role includes managing staff, ensuring product quality and freshness, maintaining inventory, and meeting company performance goals. The Produce Manager plays a key role in training associates, implementing company policies, and ensuring compliance with food safety and operational standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day activities of the produce department operations in a retail store.
  • Order and maintain inventory while ensuring product freshness and quality.
  • Review and validate received orders for quality and condition.
  • Manage a team to complete stocking, production, and additional tasks.
  • Maintain familiarity with all products in the department and store.
  • Communicate and execute the weekly and period Flight Plan to company expectations.
  • Implement work schedules, labor control, and payroll expense management.
  • Model core values and competencies of the company.
  • Manage staffing, training, performance management, and career development of associates.
  • Develop and monitor department goals and forecasts.
  • Participate in daily huddles and manager meetings as required.
  • Maintain a clean and well-stocked department following company standards.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety and safety guidelines.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or Equivalent (GED) required.
  • Two years of retail experience preferred.
  • One year of supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good organization, prioritization, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong leadership abilities in a hands-on environment.
  • Good strategic planning and business acumen skills.
  • Knowledge of retail store operations and management systems.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to communicate in Spanish is highly desirable.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in grocery retail management.
  • Knowledge of inventory control procedures.
