About the position

The Accounting Analyst III at FHLB Des Moines is responsible for producing timely, accurate, and reliable financial information. This role involves reviewing and preparing the Bank's quarterly and annual SEC filings in accordance with GAAP, SEC, and regulatory requirements, as well as managing daily, monthly, and quarterly accounting operations. The position also includes collaboration with other departments, detailed financial analysis, and adherence to regulatory guidance and internal controls.

Responsibilities

  • Review and prepare the Bank's quarterly and annual SEC filings in accordance with GAAP, SEC, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure accurate accounting and reporting for complex transactions such as derivatives, investments, and borrowings.
  • Complete monthly/quarterly/annual close process through preparation or peer review of journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Collaborate with other departments to analyze product activity and supervise market movement.
  • Conduct detailed analysis of data and financial documents, examining trends and market movements.
  • Adhere to and validate accurate SEC and regulatory reporting filings.
  • Participate in preparation and review of internal, external, and FHFA examiner audit requests.
  • Perform departmental regulatory guidance and internal controls, focusing on SOX 404 controls.
  • Present financial statement analysis results to higher-level management.
  • Develop solutions to improve process effectiveness and promote efficiencies through analytical reports and visualizations.
  • Coordinate, plan, and implement project responsibilities in accordance with Bank policies.
  • Identify, research, and communicate data oddities outside of defined thresholds.
  • Assist in researching codification and regulations impacting accounting operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Accounting/Finance required.
  • CPA designation preferred.
  • 7 to 12 years of related experience or 3+ years of public accounting experience.
  • Proven experience with SEC Reporting and SOX compliance.
  • Knowledge of financial instruments and capital markets.
  • Strong financial analysis skills.
  • Project leadership experience.
  • Ability to review the work of others with attention to detail.
  • Critical analytical and research skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Advanced computer skills with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SQL.
