About the position

This position involves conducting research and development activities for personal and commercial lines insurance products, ensuring compliance with industry regulations, and updating company offerings. The role allows for flexible workplace options, enabling work from the Grinnell, Iowa headquarters or from home in various states. The individual will collaborate with multiple departments and stakeholders to design, develop, and implement insurance products while maintaining detailed documentation and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Researches, analyzes, and interprets statutes, regulations, bulletins, and insurance department rulings related to product offerings.
  • Creates new endorsements and products by executing project work plans.
  • Coordinates product design, development, and implementation with all departments and customers affected by each product.
  • Presents written and verbal reports to stakeholders, management, and affected departments.
  • Maintains detailed documentation of all aspects of project development.
  • Creates and maintains lists, manuals, matrices, tables, and reports for reference and system access.
  • Prepares documentation for regulatory filings to state Departments of Insurance.
  • Acts as an expert resource regarding personal or commercial lines products and procedures.
  • Identifies potential problems and develops proactive resolutions.
  • Assists with continuous improvements of business processes.
  • Ensures Grinnell Mutual offers current and up-to-date products to customers.
  • Reviews regulatory information and updates to determine implications for business.
  • Defines project intent/scope and drafts policy/form language.
  • Reviews drafts with stakeholders and makes recommendations regarding products and coding.
  • Finalizes drafts and prepares documentation for submission to Departments of Insurance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college with a minimum of two years of Property Casualty Insurance experience or equivalent education and experience.
  • Ability to understand complex insurance terminology and possess working knowledge of Commercial and/or Personal Lines insurance products.
  • A certificate in General Insurance or equivalent is preferred.
  • CPCU or CIC designation or progress towards designation recommended.
  • Ability to identify and initiate projects that are varied in scope and complexity.
  • Ability to manage multiple and/or conflicting priorities with interruptions.
  • Ability to work harmoniously with co-workers, supervisors, customers, and the general public.
  • Demonstrated ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to communicate both written and verbally to explain and support a recommendation.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and determine appropriate information dissemination.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to deliver high-quality products.
  • Ability to learn or have prior knowledge of SERFF and Project Management Workflow/SharePoint System.
  • Ability to maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
