About the position

The Product Application Welding Engineer Intern position at United States Steel Corporation is designed for students pursuing a degree in Welding, Mechanical Engineering, or Materials Science Engineering. The intern will work under the guidance of the Welding Technology Manager, supporting automotive customers in utilizing Advanced High Strength Steels to enhance performance and reduce mass. This role offers valuable exposure to various aspects of the company's operations and collaboration with multiple teams.

Responsibilities

• Develop improved weld schedules for Advanced High Strength Steels used by the automotive industry
• Study the effects of post weld automotive processing parameters, such as paint baking and deformation
• Database weld studies

Requirements

• Currently enrolled as a full-time student pursuing a bachelor's degree in Welding, Mechanical Engineering, or Materials Science Engineering
• Completion of sophomore year and in good academic standing
• Ability to start work in summer of 2025 and beyond
• Ability and willingness to work an average of 40 hrs/week during the summer, with an option to work a minimum of 16 hrs/week during non-summer months
• Continuation of an acceptable grade point average while participating in the program
• Excellent communications and interpersonal skills
• Excellent planning and organization skills
• Computer literacy to a working skills level - proficient with Microsoft Office products, especially Excel
