About the position

Pilot Company is seeking a motivated and experienced Product Designer II to join our dynamic team in Knoxville, TN. This full-time, in-office position offers the flexibility to work from home two days a week. As a Product Designer, you will play a crucial role in understanding user needs and business objectives, translating them into intuitive design solutions that drive continuous improvements. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineers, product managers, and other designers, to create user-centric products that are functional and enjoyable to use. Your day-to-day activities will include conducting user research, developing wireframes and prototypes, and performing usability tests. You will present design ideas to internal teams and stakeholders, ensuring that your designs align with user needs and business goals. Your expertise will significantly shape the look, feel, and user experience of our digital platforms, making this role essential to the success of our products. We are looking for a passionate designer who enjoys problem-solving and creating aesthetically pleasing products. You will be responsible for conceptualizing and developing detailed product designs, driving continuous design improvements, and defending your design decisions based on user needs and design principles.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and interpret user needs, business objectives, and technical constraints in design decisions.
  • Conceptualize and develop detailed product designs that meet user needs and business objectives.
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, including product managers, researchers, engineers, and marketers.
  • Drive continuous design improvements by incorporating user feedback, usability findings, and design best practices.
  • Present and defend design decisions based on user needs, design principles, and business objectives.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in Design, HCI, or a related field is required.
  • At least four years of experience in product design or a related field.
  • Direct experience in designing innovative digital solutions is a must.
  • Proven track record in initiating, leading, and delivering successful user-centric design solutions.
  • Working experience with design software such as Sketch, Adobe XD, and Figma is required.
  • Familiarity with HTML/CSS, JavaScript, and other front-end technologies is a plus.
  • Experience with user research methods, design thinking, wireframing, prototyping, A/B testing, and usability testing.
  • Prior experience working in cross-functional teams and presenting to stakeholders is highly beneficial.
  • A rich portfolio showcasing a deep understanding of design principles, creativity, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience in data-informed design (utilizing user data to inform design decisions).
