About the position

The Product Designer Intern role at Garmin involves learning and applying user-centered design principles to assist in the development of software user interfaces for various products. The intern will collaborate closely with user experience designers, software engineers, production artists, and product managers to create effective and usable design solutions while gaining hands-on experience in the field.

Responsibilities

• Learn to research, design, and prototype new user experiences for new features.
• Create design mockups and wireframes, capturing interactivity and business logic for proper design implementation.
• Produce creative, simple, and highly usable solutions for product interactions based on human behavior.
• Work closely with user experience designers, production artists, software engineers, and product managers to determine design directions.
• Assist with new user interface testing and conduct usability tests to gather feedback on new designs.
• Collaborate and communicate with engineering teams and product managers to produce superior design solutions.
• Maintain and ensure user interface design and behavioral consistency across Garmin products.

Requirements

• Completed coursework in Interactive Design, Human Factors, or a related degree that teaches user-centered design principles.
• Excellent academic performance with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Relevant experience or training related to user interface design and behavior.

Nice-to-haves

• Outstanding academic performance with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.
• Proficiency in software tools such as Figma, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, and Adobe Flash or After Effects.
• Previous experience working in a team environment.
• Artistic eye for usability design, particularly for mobile platforms.
