About the position

As a Product Designer Intern at Garmin, you will embark on a full-time internship located in Olathe, KS, where you will immerse yourself in the world of user-centered design. This role is designed for you to learn and apply fundamental usability principles that will guide the development of software user interfaces across various products with diverse specifications. You will work closely with a team of user experience designers, software engineers, production artists, and product managers, gaining hands-on experience in the design process and contributing to real projects. Your responsibilities will include researching, designing, and prototyping new user experiences for features, creating design mockups, and wireframing. You will capture interactivity and business logic essential for proper design implementation, all while adhering to Garmin's development methodology. This internship will provide you with the opportunity to produce creative, simple, and highly usable solutions that respond effectively to human behavior. Collaboration is key in this role, as you will work closely with user experience designers and production artists, as well as software engineers and product managers, to determine design directions. You will also assist in conducting usability tests to gather feedback on new designs, ensuring that user interface design and behavioral consistency is maintained across Garmin products. Responsibilities

• Learn to research, design and prototype new user experiences for new features.
• Create design mockups and wireframes.
• Capture interactivity and business logic required for proper design implementation.
• Work closely with user experience designers, production artists, software engineers, and product managers to determine design directions.
• Assist with new user interface testing and conduct usability tests to gather feedback on new designs.
• Collaborate and communicate with teams in engineering and product management to produce superior solutions.
• Maintain and ensure user interface design and behavioral consistency across Garmin products.

Requirements

• Completed coursework in Interactive Design, Human Factors, or a degree with an equivalent curriculum that teaches user-centered design principles.
• Excellent academics with a cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0.
• Demonstrated strong and effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Relevant experience and/or training related to user interface design and behavior.

Nice-to-haves

• Outstanding academics with a cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5.
• Software skills in Figma, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, and Adobe Flash or After Effects.
• Previous experience working in a team environment.
• Artistic eye for usability design with relation to the mobile platform.
