About the position

The Human Factors Engineer Advisor role at GDIT focuses on enhancing user experience through effective UI/UX design and research. The position involves applying human performance principles to design human-machine systems, conducting user research, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to create user-centered designs that improve system usability and functionality. The ideal candidate will have a strong portfolio and experience in product design, ensuring that the designs are intuitive and meet user needs.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct user research through surveys, interviews, and usability testing to gather insights into user behavior and needs.
  • Develop user personas, journey maps, and conduct competitive analysis to inform design decisions.
  • Translate research findings into actionable insights that drive design improvements and product features.
  • Design wireframes, user flows, and high-fidelity prototypes that illustrate functionality and user interactions.
  • Create visually appealing and consistent UI elements that align with client vision of UI/UX journey.
  • Collaborate with other product designers, developers, and stakeholders to understand requirements, objectives, and constraints.
  • Present design concepts and rationale to stakeholders, incorporating feedback to iterate on design solutions.
  • Work with developers to ensure accurate usage of UI/UX design and maintain quality.
  • Contribute to and help maintain the design system, including components, style guides, and UI patterns.
  • Conduct usability testing to identify areas for improvements, gathering quantitative and qualitative data on user experience.
  • Analyze user feedback and data to refine and iterate designs, continuously enhancing the product experience.
  • Stay up to date with the latest UI/UX trends, tools, and best practices to keep client's product innovative and competitive.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Visual Arts, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of experience in UI/UX or product design, with a strong portfolio showcasing user-centered design/human-centered design and interaction.
  • Strong understanding of design principles, typography, color theory, and grid systems.
  • Proficiency in prototyping and wireframing tools such as Figma.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with an ability to articulate design decisions clearly.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a user-centered mindset.
  • Detail-oriented with a passion for creating engaging and intuitive user experiences.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript is a plus (not required).
