About the position

Security Benefit is searching for an experienced Product Designer to join our team. The ideal candidate may work remotely but will be required to travel to our home office in Topeka, Kansas or our Overland Park, Kansas office periodically. Security Benefit associates are working in a hybrid environment with both remote and on-site work. Through a combination of product innovation, exceptional investment management, and a unique distribution strategy, Security Benefit has become a leader in the U.S. retirement industry. For more than five decades, we've focused our expertise solely on this market, providing a broad suite of annuities and mutual fund programs to help customers from coast to coast align their assets with their aspirations. The Product Designer will work within the establishment of product design standards and best practices, ensuring that the digital products being developed are intuitive and customer-centric. The role's expectation is to be both a thought leader and contribute to specific product development efforts. As a designer, you'll be asked to handle responsibilities, including collaborating with cross-functional teams, leading the translation of insights into simple and intuitive design solutions, and managing the end-to-end design process from concept to execution. This includes creating and educating journey maps and interaction models, conducting user research and usability testing, and iterating on designs based on feedback and data-driven insights. Staying updated on industry trends and design best practices to bring innovative ideas to the table is also crucial. Working in coordination with our Brand team to establish design standards and patterns for Security Benefit is a key aspect of this role.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product managers, technology and business teams, to uncover customer and business needs.
  • Lead the translation of insights into simple and intuitive design solutions that evolve and enhance Security Benefit product offerings and customer experiences.
  • Lead the end-to-end design process, from concept to execution, ensuring a user-centric approach throughout.
  • Create and educate journey maps and interaction models.
  • Conduct user research and usability testing to gather insights and refine design solutions.
  • Create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs that align with business objectives and user needs.
  • Iterate on designs based on feedback and data-driven insights to continually improve the user experience.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and design best practices to bring innovative ideas to the table.
  • Work in coordination with our Brand team to establish design standards and patterns for Security Benefit.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field.
  • A minimum of five years' experience as a Product Designer with a focus on user applications, preferably in the annuities or financial services industry.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing design skills, problem-solving abilities, and successful project outcomes.
  • Proficiency in design tools such as Sketch, Figma, or Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Solid understanding of user-centered design principles and methodologies.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to articulate and justify design decisions.
  • Experience working in a variety of technology environments including partnering with vendors, third-party teams, and internal engineering resources.
