About the position

The Product Development Actuarial Analyst position at Kaiser Permanente is a critical role focused on new product development within the healthcare sector. The individual in this role will be responsible for researching and assessing the financial risks associated with new products, ensuring that actuarial documentation aligns with financial reports and tax returns, and developing actuarial models to evaluate product lines. The analyst will also interpret financial risks and opportunities, utilizing both traditional and non-traditional actuarial methods to conduct analyses that inform product development decisions. In this role, the analyst will practice self-leadership and promote a culture of learning by building relationships with cross-functional stakeholders. This includes communicating vital information, providing advice to drive projects forward, and influencing team members within their unit. The analyst will be expected to listen and respond to feedback, adapt to changing demands, and mentor junior team members. They will also create and execute plans to leverage strengths and address weaknesses, all while adapting to change and learning from challenges. The analyst will oversee business-specific projects, applying their deep expertise to ensure adherence to procedures and policies. They will develop work plans to meet business priorities, coordinate resources, and partner with internal and external stakeholders to make informed business decisions. The role requires solving complex problems, monitoring progress, and recognizing opportunities for improvement. Additionally, the analyst will complete actuarial documentation by reviewing financial reports and tax returns, ensuring compliance with insurance regulations, and presenting findings to mid-level leadership. The position also involves designing product line evaluations by analyzing financials, reserves, and cash flow, as well as interpreting product performance and risk assumptions. The analyst will lead collaborations with business partners, translating complex actuarial concepts into actionable recommendations and ensuring compliance with the Actuarial Standards of Practice. They will create frameworks and assumptions for both traditional and non-traditional actuarial models to meet the evolving needs of the business.

Responsibilities

  • Research and assess financial risks associated with new product development.
  • Align actuarial documentation with financial reports and tax returns.
  • Develop and design product line evaluations and actuarial models.
  • Interpret and communicate findings of analysis of product line financials, reserves, and cash flow.
  • Conduct actuarial analyses using non-traditional methods and actuarial judgment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mathematics or a related field.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of actuarial experience.
  • Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society Certificate or Associate of the Society of Actuaries Certificate.
