About the position

Prysmian is seeking a Product Development Engineering Manager for its Power Distribution business, located in Highland Heights, KY. This role is pivotal in driving the success and growth of our product offerings in the medium and low voltage cable sector. As a leader in the energy and telecom cable systems industry, Prysmian manufactures a wide range of cables and systems for power transmission and distribution, as well as for the construction and infrastructure sectors. The successful candidate will report directly to the Product Development Director for Power Distribution and will play a crucial role in understanding and addressing the unique challenges faced by our internal and external customers. In this position, you will be responsible for overseeing end-to-end product development processes, ensuring that new products meet technical, quality, commercial, and operational objectives. You will guide the development and implementation of new products, collaborating closely with manufacturing, quality assurance, and commercial product management teams. Your role will also involve engaging with customers to identify potential product development opportunities that can enhance overall business performance and expand our product portfolio. Additionally, you will contribute to long-term company strategies focused on sustainability and innovation, acting as a liaison between manufacturing and product teams to identify customer requirements and emerging market trends. The role requires active participation in technical committees and standards development, ensuring compliance with industry standards such as UL, CSA, and IEEE. You will prepare test plans for internal labs and third-party approval agencies, and manage third-party submittals for product listings. This position anticipates travel requirements of 10%-30%, reflecting the need for direct engagement with customers and stakeholders in various locations.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for new-product development projects to ensure they meet technical, quality, commercial and operation objectives.
  • Contribute to material cost reduction programs through new process/material introductions.
  • Guide the development and implementation of new products, working closely with manufacturing, quality, and commercial product management.
  • Meet with customers to determine potential product development opportunities to improve overall business performance and portfolio.
  • Work on long term company strategy in sustainability and innovation.
  • Act as internal liaison between manufacturing and the product teams to identify customer requirements, emerging trends and changing marketplace directions.
  • Prepare test plans for internal labs and third-party approval agencies.
  • Responsible for third-party submittals listings (UL, CSA, RUS, etc.) and final approval adopting the widest range of approval that can be granted.
  • Actively participate in appropriate technical committees and standards development (UL, CSA, IEEE, ICEA, etc.) that affect product development.

Requirements

  • BS degree in Engineering or equivalent Engineering Degree and experience minimum.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of manufacturing experience working in manufacturing and product development/design engineering.
  • PC and systems experience (SAP, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Word, Teams, SharePoint, etc.).
  • Wire and Cable experience preferred.
  • Outstanding communication (verbal & written) with associates, peers and upper management.
  • Business knowledge and understanding of cost/benefit analysis including volume requirements for profitability of product designs.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Ability to work with and lead cross-functional groups.
  • Ability to work and collaborate amongst peers and team members with transparency.
  • Basic metallurgical knowledge of aluminum, copper and steel.
  • Basic material knowledge of insulating and semi-conducting polymers.
  • Strong project management skills, follow-through, results driven.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
