About the position

The Engineering Manager of Product Development is responsible for overseeing the technical aspects of bringing new furniture designs from concept to product launch. This role involves leading a team of engineers, collaborating with design teams, and optimizing product development workflows to ensure high-quality, manufacturable upholstered furniture.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the product development team to ensure timely and successful delivery of upholstered furniture.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including design, manufacturing, and quality assurance, to align product development with company goals.
  • Oversee the entire product development lifecycle, from concept to production, ensuring adherence to design specifications, quality standards, and project timelines.
  • Develop and implement engineering strategies that optimize product performance, cost-effectiveness, and manufacturability.
  • Foster a culture of innovation within the team, encouraging exploration of new materials, technologies, and design approaches.
  • Coordinate with external suppliers and vendors to source materials, components, and technologies that align with project requirements and cost targets.
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards, incorporating new developments into the product development process.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineering team members, fostering their professional growth and skill development.
  • Collaborate with sales and marketing teams to understand customer needs and market trends, incorporating feedback into product development strategies.
  • Manage project budgets, resource allocation, and timelines to meet business objectives while maintaining high quality in product deliverables.

Requirements

  • In-depth knowledge of furniture design principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.
  • Strong project management skills, with a track record of successfully leading cross-functional teams and delivering projects on time and within budget.
  • Proficient in CAD software and other relevant engineering tools used in furniture design and development.
  • Excellent understanding of quality assurance processes and the ability to implement effective quality control measures throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams, external suppliers, and stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with industry regulations, standards, and certifications related to furniture manufacturing and safety.
  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail and a proactive approach to addressing technical challenges.
