About the position

The Product Development Manager (Integration & Delivery) at Snap-on is a pivotal management role responsible for overseeing a software development team based in Lincolnshire, IL. This team plays a crucial role in developing a web-based Windows PC application that operates on global point-of-sale systems, facilitating the sale and delivery of diagnostic scan tool software. The position requires a strategic approach to planning and managing software development processes, ensuring that product upgrades and integrated software builds are delivered on rigid schedules. The manager will work closely with global teams to ensure seamless collaboration and effective delivery of software solutions. In this role, the manager will take on Agile Product Owner responsibilities, which include managing the team backlog and collaborating with the Product Manager to prioritize features and enhancements. The position also involves ownership of the product licensing system design and the software upgrade distribution systems, ensuring that these systems are released according to strict timelines. The manager will collaborate with diagnostic scan tool product managers and development managers to facilitate integrated builds and the delivery of installers and upgrade processes for scan tool software. Additionally, the manager will work with production factory teams to support the supply chain, including production, customer care, and repair depot operations. Collaboration with the Information Technology team is also essential for hosting deployments, which includes the delivery of run books and installers. A key aspect of this role is the development of team members through career development initiatives, skill improvement, and succession planning. The manager will contribute to the long-range strategy for software development, focusing on quality management, technical debt, and the technical stack. The role also requires the management and enhancement of key performance metrics for the software development team, ensuring that productivity and quality standards are met. The manager will oversee and sponsor Rapid Continuous Improvements, such as Lean Initiatives, to drive cost efficiency and improve overall team performance.

Responsibilities

  • Direct line management of software development and software quality associates operating in an agile methodology with a focus on secure software development
  • Agile Product Owner responsibilities, including managing the team backlog and collaborating with the Product Manager on priorities and features
  • Ownership of the product licensing system design, and software upgrade distribution systems released on rigid schedules
  • Collaborate with diagnostic scan tool product managers and development managers on integrated builds, delivery of installers, and upgrade processes of scan tool software
  • Collaborate with production factory teams on tools supporting the supply chain including production, customer care, and repair depot
  • Collaboration with Information Technology team on hosting deployments, including delivery of run books and installers
  • Develop team members - career development, skill improvement, and succession planning
  • Contribute to the software development long range strategy, including management of quality, technical debt, and technical stack
  • Manage and enhance key metrics to manage the performance of the software development team
  • Collaborate with other Snap-on Groups and Divisions to execute product, support, and financial goals
  • Oversee/sponsor Rapid Continuous Improvements (i.e. Lean Initiatives) within areas of responsibility to drive cost out and improve the overall productivity and quality of the team

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or related field, or equivalent experience
  • 7 years of previous software development experience
  • 5 years of previous managerial or leadership experience
  • Team building skills with the ability to motivate associates
  • Previous experience developing or managing development of hosted web-based systems and desktop application systems
  • Experience with external hosting providers preferred
  • Continuous Improvement (Lean) experience with a proven track record of achievements
  • Excellent communication, organizational and analytical skills
  • Excellent presentation, written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
