About the position

The Product Development Manager will oversee and directly manage projects for the development process and assigned category product lines. This role is crucial in leading a team of product specialists and technical support resources in the development of outdoor recreational products, toys, and home & gifts that align with the brand's value proposition and financial performance goals. The manager will collaborate closely with merchant teams and overseas suppliers to ensure that the development process and performance metrics are met effectively. In this position, the manager will contribute to the merchant business through creative execution, which includes product line planning, material innovation, and sourcing expertise. The role involves coaching the product development team to enhance product development and drive efficiency in the development process with key stakeholders. The manager will devise strategies for product development improvement, facilitate the product line planning process, and manage the product development calendar. Additionally, the Product Development Manager will lead sourcing initiatives to establish a competitive set of qualified suppliers for products and material development platforms. They will conduct product FOB cost analysis and provide solutions to meet target costs while supporting merchants in cost negotiation strategies. The manager will proactively research new trends, technologies, and materials to drive innovation and communicate new development opportunities to cross-functional teams. Ensuring that product developments align with quality standards, cost, and on-time service targets from concept development to approvals and ex-factory dates is also a key responsibility. The manager will build and manage quality management systems to ensure that developed products meet the standards and specifications of the brands.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in materials/product development or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in product development in the consumer products industry; experience in the sporting goods and/or outdoor industry is preferred.
  • Previous hands-on experience in product development, including analysis of product specifications and managing a portfolio of products.
  • Experience leading and developing a high-performing team.
  • Expertise in product development and material development.
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to anticipate future trends and translate them into action.
  • Solid organizational, analytical, and planning skills.
  • Understanding of key financial indicators to make informed business decisions.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to build partnerships at all levels.
  • Skilled at establishing and maintaining effective supplier and customer relationships.
