About the position

The Product Development Manager is responsible for supervising R&D Scientists in conducting research and testing for new products aimed at innovation and efficacy. This role involves assisting in the formulation, sourcing, and testing of new products before they are considered for marketing launch, while also supporting the R&D department in various tasks related to product development.

Responsibilities

• Manage R&D Scientists in entering new Product Development Forms for projects.
• Collaborate with the Director of R&D on project involvement and independence.
• Conduct independent research to identify novel product possibilities and present proposals.
• Provide backup to the Director of R&D and maintain communication with the General Manager.
• Assist R&D Scientists in formulating new products and managing raw materials sourcing and testing.
• Oversee initial stability testing of lab batches and coordinate the coding process.
• Support R&D Scientists and Technicians by troubleshooting formulations and prioritizing projects.
• Meet weekly with the Director of R&D to discuss department status and open items.
• Assist in writing scientific abstracts, papers, and patents for publication.
• Propose continual improvements to the New Product Development process and project tracking.
• Lead and review minutes from weekly R&D meetings to track project progress.

Requirements

• B.S., B.A., M.S. or Ph.D. in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Science, Cosmetic Science, or a related scientific discipline.
• 2+ years management experience in a lab setting required.
• Product formulation or related experience preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong computer and organizational skills.

• Experience in laboratory settings.
• Knowledge of analytical instrumentation for formulation and testing.
