About the position

The Product Development Manager at PACCAR is responsible for overseeing and implementing product development policies, life cycles, objectives, and initiatives. This role involves leading research for new products and product enhancements, as well as product redesign, while evaluating the potential and practicality of products in development. The manager will coordinate project activities across multiple departments as projects progress, ensuring that key deliverables are met for successful product implementation. In this position, the manager will lead research efforts to explore new markets, products, enhancements, and redesigns. They will investigate and forecast market potential for current and proposed products, analyzing economic and market data to present findings to Senior Management. The role requires leadership of the product development program roadmap, ensuring timely delivery of each element while optimizing market windows, customer requirements, product release strategies, and competitive advantages. The Product Development Manager will ensure alignment across product value propositions, program scopes, and strategic business objectives. They will hold team members accountable for the creation and delivery of program goals and milestones, working with functional leaders to ensure that the appropriate core team resources are committed to the program. Additionally, the manager will lead cross-functional Market Segment Teams through problem resolution, including root cause analysis and corrective actions, while constructively challenging the team to rethink assumptions and approach challenges in innovative ways. The role also involves acting as a liaison between Sales, Operations, Purchasing, Accounting, and Engineering, providing assistance with major accounts as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Leads research for new markets, new products, product enhancements, and product redesign.
  • Investigates and forecasts market potential for current and proposed products, analyzing economic and market data and presenting this information to Senior Management.
  • Leadership of the product development program roadmap ensuring timely delivery while optimizing market window, customer requirements, product release strategies, and competitive advantage.
  • Ensure alignment across product value proposition, program scope, and strategic business objectives.
  • Hold team members accountable for the creation and delivery of program goals and milestones.
  • Work with functional leaders to ensure appropriate core team resources are committed to the program and contribute to required performance levels.
  • Lead cross-functional Market Segment Teams through problem resolution including root cause analysis, corrective, and preventive action.
  • Act as a liaison between Sales, Operations, Purchasing, Accounting, and Engineering.
  • Provide assistance with major accounts as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field required; an MBA or other advanced business/management degree preferred.
  • 5+ years' product development experience and related industry experience.
  • Technical product knowledge, gained through five to ten years of closely related experience.
  • Proven track record of new product development and launch to market.
  • Expertise in cross-functional team leadership delivering critical business goals within a phase-gate based product development process.
  • Excellent influencing skills with the ability to achieve challenging goals through others without direct authority across different functions, geographies, and cultures.
  • Exceptional analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills coupled with strong business, strategic, and financial acumen.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft suite skills: Excel, Word, PowerPoint.

Nice-to-haves

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a plus.
  • Background in hydraulics and power transmission products is a plus.
  • Supporting systems knowledge a plus: Creo, Windchill, Tableau, Teams, and CRM platforms.
