About the position

The Product Development Manager position is a mid to senior level role within a leading streetwear and sportswear licensed apparel brand collective. This role is pivotal in coordinating the day-to-day development for both the Women's and Men's verticals across various departments, including Design, Technical, and Production. The successful candidate will be responsible for influencing design decisions, leveraging their working knowledge of print and embroidery techniques to ensure that the final products meet the brand's high standards of quality and aesthetic appeal. In this role, the Product Development Manager will act as a liaison between design, merchandising, technical design, and overseas development teams. This involves driving concepts to executable samples, managing communication with overseas teams, and prioritizing workflows to meet urgent requests and deadlines throughout the sampling and production phases. The manager will also oversee the time and action calendar, ensuring that all processes within the vertical are streamlined and efficient. The responsibilities extend to reviewing tech packs for accuracy, completeness, quality, affordability, and compliance prior to sampling. The manager will evaluate and comment on samples from inception to completion, ensuring that the final products align with the initial design concepts. A strong understanding of design aesthetic intent is crucial for product approval, and the manager will alert the design team to any discrepancies that may arise. Additionally, the Product Development Manager will maintain current production libraries of blanks, colors, and fabrications, ensuring that the Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system is updated with accurate information at all times. Participation in weekly cross-functional meetings is expected, along with the performance of other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Liaise between design, merchandising, technical design, and overseas development teams to drive concepts to executable samples.
  • Lead communication with overseas teams, including workflow prioritization, urgent requests, and deadlines throughout sampling and production phases.
  • Manage time and action calendar, workflow, and processes within the vertical.
  • Assist in reviewing tech packs for accuracy, completeness, quality, affordability, and compliance prior to sampling.
  • Evaluate and comment on samples from start to finish, ensuring alignment with initial concept design.
  • Deliver samples on time to the quality standard and within price range.
  • Maintain current production libraries of blanks, colors, and fabrications.
  • Ensure PLM is kept updated with accuracy at all times.
  • Attend and participate in weekly cross-functional meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 5+ years' experience in apparel product development or production.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator is REQUIRED.
  • Technical capability and strong product knowledge of apparel construction and production.
  • Ability to confidently influence decisions regarding garment construction, fabric construction, and knowledge of embellishments.
  • Excellent time-management and prioritization skills while working on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience leading teams onsite and overseas.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and a high degree of accuracy.
  • Strong Excel skills in Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrates business acumen and a sense of aesthetics.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ability to speak Chinese or Spanish is a plus.

Benefits

  • Salary range of $115,000 - $150,000 based on experience.
