About the position

The Product Development Technician II is responsible for completing technical and lab work independently with minimal direction from a chemist or supervisor. The Technician II will work to develop an area of responsibility and specialization through on the job related training. As a contributor to product development or product support teams, the Technician II will be responsible, under minimal supervision, for supporting lab prototyping, testing, data analysis, and scale-up trials.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and mix coating formulations using laboratory mixing equipment.
  • Perform drawdowns of formulations using drawdown and drying equipment.
  • Test material properties and performance of coatings, adhesives and films.
  • Compile results and document in laboratory electronic notebook.
  • Analyze data and communicate results to professional staff.
  • Assist the chemist in preparing for pilot scale coating trials.
  • Perform all work in compliance with laboratory environmental, health and safety rules.
  • Adhere to Brady's Safety, Attendance & other Company policies.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 1-3 years experience.
  • Ability to read and follow written directions.
  • Basic math and computer skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. repeatedly, stand for 80% of a shift, and perform bending, twisting, and reaching tasks.
  • Ability to acquire on-the-job knowledge of chemical formulation, material property testing, and quality tools.
  • Previous experience in a laboratory environment, including accurate documentation of results and technical report writing.
  • Working knowledge of basic statistics (e.g., mean, standard deviation, graphical analysis, hypothesis testing, and control charts).
