About the position

The role is focused on the engineering of both new and existing products to meet customer requirements. It involves collaboration with various teams, including Industrial Designers and Packaging Engineers, to ensure that products are designed and engineered according to specifications. The position encompasses responsibilities from product conception through to commercialization, ensuring quality and manufacturability throughout the process.

Responsibilities

  • Design and engineer products including material/manufacturing/tooling process selection.
  • Translate market requirements to product specifications.
  • Create CAD documentation and BOM structure.
  • Conduct technical reviews and product testing.
  • Lead prototyping activities to deliver viable samples.
  • Identify and test engineering solutions to meet Kimball and external standards.
  • Create product designs that optimize manufacturability.
  • Develop design solutions utilizing existing platforms.
  • Create quality and material standards based on platformed products.
  • Provide product and tooling options and costs.
  • Perform EC analysis and implementation.
  • Ensure manufactured products meet design and performance intent.
  • Conduct complex design investigations and feasibility studies for new components or products.
  • Optimize product design versus cost by challenging manufacturing strategies.
  • Create new or optimized product platforms across multiple manufacturing units.
  • Revise and create engineering standards.
  • Support company vision and adhere to safety guidelines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering curriculum or relevant work experience.
  • Understanding of sound engineering practices.
  • Knowledge of Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Value Engineering/Value Analysis (VE/VA), and Design for Manufacturing/Assembly (DFM/DFA).
  • Understanding of manufacturing and tooling processes.
  • Ability to perform root cause failure analysis.
  • Knowledge of various materials including steel, aluminum, plastic, composites, and wood.
  • Ability to perform tolerance stack analysis.
  • Understanding of mechanical drawings and Solid modeling with 3D experience.
  • PC literate and fluent with Microsoft Office programs.
  • Ability to operate CAD related office products.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the furniture industry.
  • Understanding of Sustainability in relation to design.
  • Ability to identify product Critical to Quality Characteristics (CQT).
  • Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
