About the position

Avantor is seeking a Product Manager for Digital Bioprocess Solutions to spearhead the management of our sensors products portfolio tailored for biopharma production applications. This role encompasses a wide array of responsibilities including portfolio management, strategy development, pricing, life cycle management, and the oversight of top and bottom line growth. The position is designed to blend external partnership development with traditional product life cycle management, thereby enhancing Avantor's competitive edge in the bioprocessing sector. In this role, the Product Manager will be tasked with comprehensively understanding market needs and competitive landscapes to drive the design of our sensors and smart systems. This will ensure that our offerings are not only competitive but also meet or exceed customer expectations. The position requires close collaboration with the sales team to promote technology adoption and to mobilize internal resources to support and expand our product range effectively. The successful candidate will act as the business owner for the sensors and automation product portfolio within the Biopharma production business. This includes achieving revenue and gross margin targets while leading all facets of the business. The role also involves providing critical data on competitors, market positioning, and pricing strategies, as well as developing long-term product strategies that align with fiscal planning for future growth and evolution of the sensor product and automation platform. The Product Manager will also be responsible for establishing and leading strategic collaborations with customers, suppliers, and industry opinion leaders to enhance our market presence. Additionally, the Product Manager will work closely with strategy and business development teams to identify and cultivate opportunities for partnership and value creation in the sensors and automation domain. This includes defining go-to-market strategies in collaboration with sales and commercial teams to enhance market share and customer satisfaction. Participation in senior leadership meetings and strategic planning is also a key aspect of this role, ensuring accountability for implementation and results. The Product Manager will serve as a subject matter expert for the sensors and automation portfolio, providing guidance and expertise to sales and marketing functions, and representing Avantor at industry conferences and tradeshows.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the sensors and automation product portfolio within Biopharma production business.
  • Achieve revenue and gross margin targets for the product portfolio.
  • Provide data related to competitors, market positioning, and pricing strategies.
  • Develop long-range product strategies and guide fiscal planning for future growth.
  • Identify and establish strategic collaborations with customers and suppliers.
  • Collaborate with strategy and business development teams to identify partnership opportunities.
  • Define go-to-market strategies in partnership with sales and commercial teams.
  • Participate in senior leadership team meetings and strategic planning.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for sensors and automation portfolio.
  • Liaise with Marketing to develop effective product collateral and campaigns.
  • Represent Avantor at conferences and tradeshows.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Life Science or Engineering required; master's degree in scientific field or MBA strongly preferred.
  • 10+ years' experience in life sciences industry, product management, or market development.
  • Deep understanding of sensor integration in bioprocessing applications.
  • 5+ years technical or commercial experience with automation or advanced analytics technologies.
  • Technical competence and familiarity with bioproduction or closely related industry.
  • Demonstrated ability to articulate business cases and guide objective decision making process.
  • Results oriented with high sense of urgency.
  • Strong project management and planning skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a matrix organizational structure.
  • Ability to travel 10% - 20% both domestically and globally.
