About the position

Avantor is seeking a Product Manager for Digital Bioprocess Solutions to lead the sensors products portfolio specifically designed for biopharma production applications. This role encompasses a variety of responsibilities including portfolio management, strategy development, pricing, life cycle management, and the management of both top and bottom line growth. The position is unique as it combines external partnership development with traditional product life cycle management, aiming to enhance Avantor's competitive edge in the bioprocessing sector. The Product Manager will be tasked with understanding market needs and competition, which will drive the design efforts for sensors and smart systems that are not only competitive but also meet or exceed customer expectations. This role requires collaboration with the sales team to promote technology adoption and to ensure that the internal organization is aligned to support and expand the product range effectively. In this remote position, the Product Manager will function as the business owner for the sensors and automation portfolio within the Biopharma production business. This includes achieving revenue and gross margin targets and leading all aspects of the business. The role also involves providing critical data related to competitors, market positioning, and pricing strategies, as well as developing long-range product strategies and guiding fiscal planning for future growth and evolution of the sensor product and automation platform. The Product Manager will collaborate with various teams to identify and mature opportunities for partnerships and value creation in the sensors and automation space, ensuring that Avantor remains at the forefront of innovation in bioprocessing solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the sensors and automation portfolio of products within the Biopharma production business.
  • Meet or exceed revenue and gross margin targets for the product portfolio.
  • Provide data related to competitors, market positioning, and pricing strategies.
  • Develop long-range product strategies and guide fiscal planning for future growth.
  • Identify and establish strategic collaborations with customers, suppliers, and industry leaders.
  • Collaborate with sales and marketing teams to define go-to-market strategies and enhance customer satisfaction.
  • Participate in senior leadership meetings and strategic planning sessions.
  • Drive cross-business unit and divisional initiatives in a matrixed organization.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for sensors and automation to support sales and marketing functions.
  • Represent Avantor at conferences and tradeshows, effectively communicating product strategies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Life Science or Engineering required; master's degree in scientific field or MBA strongly preferred.
  • 10+ years' experience in life sciences industry, product management, or market development.
  • Deep understanding of sensor integration in bioprocessing applications.
  • 5+ years technical or commercial experience with automation or advanced analytics technologies.
  • Technical competence and familiarity with bioproduction or closely related industry.
  • Demonstrated ability to articulate business cases and guide objective decision-making processes.
  • Results-oriented with a high sense of urgency.
  • Strong project management and planning skills, comfortable making decisions and adopting changes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a matrix organizational structure.
