About the position

Stem provides clean energy solutions and services designed to maximize the economic, environmental, and resiliency value of energy assets and portfolios. Stem's leading AI-driven enterprise software platform, Athena, enables organizations to deploy and unlock value from clean energy assets at scale. Powerful applications, including AlsoEnergy's PowerTrack, simplify and optimize asset management and connect an ecosystem of owners, developers, assets, and markets. Stem also offers integrated partner solutions to help improve returns across energy projects, including storage, solar, and EV fleet charging. The Product Manager for Forecasting and Energy Portfolio Products will be part of Stem's product management team and will own and extend forecasting and portfolio energy products and services at Stem. They will work with cross-functional stakeholders and SMEs to ensure Stem continues to deliver industry-leading forecasting capabilities for load, renewables generation, wholesale prices, and other key operating inputs in behind-the-meter and front-of-the-meter clean energy asset operations. Furthermore, they will contribute to the go-to-market strategy, roadmap, and execute on delivery of energy portfolio analytics. This individual will be a key contributor to keeping Stem at the forefront of AI-based analytics. This individual will report to the Vice President of Optimization Products.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to act as primary contributor to the product roadmap for product and feature delivery, internally developed or via partnerships, related to Athena forecasting products.

  • Own and prioritize technical product backlog in development of Stem's forecasting and energy portfolio analytics offerings, supporting products that meet and exceed customer requirements and respond to energy transition needs.
  • Assess and address technical risks and delivery risks to ensure timely delivery of products and features.
  • Participate in agile processes and ceremonies within the software development team, and follow high standards for automation, quality, and transparency/observability.
  • Collaborate with the engineering team in the high-level design of data pipelines, forecasting models, and software systems.
  • Collaborate with peers working on optimization products to ensure alignment and compatibility between forecasting and optimization approaches.
  • Work with product solution managers to develop strategies and business models around monetization of Stem's forecasting and energy portfolio analytics products and services.
  • Work with product marketing to develop collateral that can be used with customers and general public to project Stem's leadership and differentiation in forecasting and energy portfolio analytics capabilities.
  • Understand, research, and follow technical trends in the energy industry.
  • Conduct competitive market assessments and capability assessments regularly.
  • Explore partnerships and procurement options to complement internal development activities for high impact, build vs partner vs buy decisions.
  • Provide internal training and present to customers on Stem's capabilities in forecasting and energy portfolio analytics.
  • Analyze key performance indicators, report on these indicators at a regular cadence to the Vice President of Optimization Products.
  • Define success criteria for testing and product acceptance.
  • Facilitate the creation and maintenance of high-quality product documentation.
  • Foster a strong technical culture characterized by high-quality implementations, effective organizational communication, decisiveness and speed, constructive conflict resolution, and a can-do mentality.
  • Establish effective and collaborative cross-functional working relationships with peers, developers, and operations teams.

Requirements

  • 5+ years experience in delivering industry-leading software and data science products.
  • Electric power industry domain experience with demonstrated understanding of renewable energy, power systems, wholesale power markets, and Smart Grid technologies.
  • Expert knowledge of energy system forecasting and with a focus on power market fundamentals.
  • Experience in energy supply portfolio management, with a familiarity for common off take structures and portfolio performance and risk KPIs.
  • Prior work with cross-functional product development teams, including developers, engineers, architects, quality assurance, and operations.
  • Experience working in an Agile engineering organization.
  • Experience defining business models and go-to-market strategies.
  • Experience participating in and leading commercial discussions with customers' leadership teams.
  • Experience with algorithm ops: Validation, simulation and deployment pipeline, feature engineering, A/B testing.
  • Power user of JIRA, Confluence.
  • Extraordinary communication skills, and able to present on complex technical topics to non-technical audiences.
