About the position

The role of the Manager, Product Management at CarMax is pivotal in leading the discovery and delivery of large-scale, complex products that enhance the CarMax shopping and ownership experience. This position is responsible for creating a product vision and strategy that aligns with the overall program strategy. The successful candidate will set and achieve objectives and key results within their product by driving a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team to prioritize opportunities and identify actionable solutions. The role requires a strong focus on leveraging technology to enhance the end-to-end customer experience, collaborating across various business functions, including technology, design, and operations, while advocating for the product and articulating its value to multiple levels of the organization. In this position, the Product Manager will serve as a key player on a team supporting a large-scale, complex product, driving the vision, strategy, user experience, and performance metrics. The individual will ensure that product goals are aligned with broader program strategies and will identify any contingencies affecting other products. A deep understanding of customer needs, business constraints, market trends, and how technology can enhance the customer experience is essential. The role also involves leading cross-functional teams of engineers, designers, and business owners to drive product launches, making thoughtful decisions, and clearing roadblocks to ensure successful implementation. Additionally, the Product Manager will rationalize and manage an opportunity and product backlog, assign priorities, and be accountable for the solutioning and implementation of product launches. They will define and monitor performance metrics post-launch and identify opportunities for improvement. The role requires strong advocacy for the product, necessitating the ability to articulate customer and business value to leaders and develop compelling presentations and prototypes to communicate the product vision. Maintaining strong relationships with key business partners to ensure alignment with company objectives is also a critical aspect of this role. The position also emphasizes team and process development, requiring the Product Manager to stay updated with the latest product management practices, mentor junior team members, and drive collaborative innovation within the organization. The individual will create and enhance guidelines, policies, practices, and procedures to improve internal product management and development processes, partnering with other product managers to identify opportunities and best practices. Active participation in external product management, UX, and development communities is encouraged.

  • Maintain a strong knowledge of customer needs, business constraints, and market trends as they relate to the product.
  • Lead cross-functional teams of engineers, designers, and business owners to drive product launches.
  • Manage an opportunity and product backlog; assign and manage priorities.
  • Accountable for solutioning and implementation of product launches; define and monitor performance metrics post-launch.
  • Articulate the customer and business value to leaders in the business; develop compelling presentations and prototypes.
  • Maintain strong relationships with key business partners to ensure product plans align with company objectives.
  • Stay updated with the latest in product management practices and mentor junior team members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field required; Master's degree preferred.
  • 4+ years' experience in digital Product Management or related field required; E-Commerce or FinTech experience a plus.
  • 3+ years' experience working in an agile environment preferred.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills with the ability to use data and metrics to back up assumptions and drive actions.
  • High attention to detail and proven ability to manage multiple competing priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with experience engaging and influencing across varying levels of leadership.
