The Product Marketing Director - Kitchen Ventilation, manages one of the top two businesses at Broan and the person in this role must bring the passion, desire and energy to outpace the market with the collection of brands that represent the #1 share. Responsible for the overall marketing strategies for assigned product lines. Responsible for creating and executing strategic marketing plans, especially product development plans. Manage the work of associate/assistant marketing manager(s) and other marketing department personnel as assigned for category management. Prepares strategic and annual marketing plans for the product lines assigned. Responsibilities include identifying market opportunities, developing overall marketing strategies, obtaining competitive intelligence, evaluating business processes as they relate to the marketing function, and execution of approved marketing plans. Facilitates the achievement of product line sales and profit objectives by coordinating activity of the Sales, Marketing, Sourcing, Engineering and Manufacturing Departments as they specifically relate to the assigned product lines. Monitors product line performance with respect to market share, market growth, sales volume, pricing, manufacturing costs, quality, brand health tracking, profitability, and other key metrics and reports on same to Management and affected departments with recommendations for action, where necessary. Provides direction for new product development, product portfolio strategies, SKU rationalization, cost savings and related sourcing activities as well as branding, advertising, promotion, packaging, display, trade show social media and other marketing communication vehicles.

Responsibilities

  • Coach and develop the Kitchen Ventilation team to strive for big wins.
  • Establish relationships with key functional personnel including Channel leaders for Retail, Professional and Appliance, to ensure efficient implementation of product plan.
  • Develop long-range strategic plans for assigned product lines, including product portfolio roadmap, and annually present to Management for review and approval.
  • Prepare annual marketing plans and budgets in cooperation with other Marketing and functional management to include projected market share, sales volume, pricing, merchandising, and promotional programs as well as departmental spending plans.
  • Develop KPI's for key programs and associated measurement approaches to gauge success during the year. Provide ROI justification for marketing programs as appropriate.
  • Interact with customers and consumers to fully understand opportunities for improvements to current products, marketing programs and for new products.
  • Develop and implement measurement systems to understand customer and consumer feedback, and track continuous improvement metrics.
  • Provide sales and marketing direction to the new product development process.
  • Supply to Product Engineering and Purchasing the desired marketing objectives related to performance, features, competitive pricing, cost targets and anticipated volume.
  • Ensure that the new products are successfully managed within the Stage-Gate process.
  • Initiate and submit for Management approval project justifications related to new product development for the assigned product lines.
  • Prepare follow-up progress reports as required.
  • Work closely with Engineering, Manufacturing and Marketing personnel to insure that schedules are maintained.
  • Lead or providing marketing representation to cross functional new product development teams, as assigned.
  • Coordinate management of existing product lines, including quality improvement opportunities, cost savings programs, product line rationalization and improvement including engineering change requests and obsolete product requests.
  • Lead key projects, as assigned.
  • Develop communication strategies and plans (as part of annual marketing planning process).
  • Lead advertising development and media planning/execution in conjunction with outside agencies (and PR/Communication Mgr. as needed).
  • Develop digital communication strategies for the assigned category, and work with Digital Marketing Mgr., Marketing Communications & Services Director/Mgr. and/or Marketing Services Mgr. to ensure execution.
  • Provide input into brand equity strategies and the development of communication and publicity plans (in conjunction with PR/Communications Director/Mgr.).
  • Participate in trade shows, customer visits and other field sales travel as may be required to stay informed of market requirements and competitive conditions or to assist in selling efforts.
  • Initiate market research activities as necessary to facilitate effective marketing planning activities and, particularly, new product development.
  • Coordinate 'go to market' plans with Channel Marketing for new products and key programs, in conjunction with relevant functions (sales, communications, PR, outside agencies) that ensures timely, high quality, flawless execution for key initiatives.
  • Monitor progress during the year, ensuring cross functional involvement and alignment, with 'course correction' actions recommended as needed.
  • Maintain continual surveillance and evaluation of competitors' products and programs.
  • Identify potential acquisition candidates. Communicate these developments and recommended actions to appropriate management.
  • Manage the work activities of product managers and other assigned marketing personnel.
  • Provide management support and direction to subordinates using performance reviews, objective plans and other appropriate tools.
  • Manage 3-5 direct reports (Category Managers, Assistant, Associate Marketing Mgr. and/or Channel Manager).
  • Develop and execute personal development plans for direct reports to ready for more senior level roles in organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in business, marketing, engineering or other technical discipline.
  • 8+ years of professional work experience, with a minimum of 5 years progressive work experience in marketing/brand or product management.
  • An MBA from a reputable business school is highly desirable.
  • A background in Global marketing and communications, as well as business development, preferably within the consumer durable goods or building products industry.
  • Proven ability to conceive, develop and launch new products using a cross-functional, stage gate approach.
  • Experience with highly engineered, technology-driven products is a plus.
  • Sufficient technical skills to execute new product development projects in a manufacturing and engineering environment.
  • Experience managing marketing strategies, as well as business development strategies and the staff and budgets required to implement them.
  • Prior management experience of direct reports.
  • Intellectually curious with a firm understanding of general business principles, particularly within the housing market.
  • Exposure and familiarity with foreign markets and the role of U.S. manufacturers in the larger global market.
  • Highly motivated, extremely organized and detail-oriented.
  • Possess personal charisma and leadership skills to successfully lead cross-sectional teams.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel, Microsoft Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Preferably experience with Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and PhotoShop.
  • Powerful teamwork and team building skills, as well as empathy and intuition for both team members and target markets alike.
