About the position

The Product Owner II is a pivotal role within the organization, responsible for ensuring that development teams (pods) deliver customer-focused product increments that create value for the organization. This position requires alignment with other Product Owners and senior management to adhere to a product vision, while also creating and maintaining a prioritized product backlog. The Product Owner II is tasked with managing delivery blockers and continuously assessing customer feedback to maximize value. This role embodies the Agile principles of transparency, collaboration, and engagement, contributing to a positive work environment. In this role, the Product Owner II provides leadership in people management by hiring top talent, setting goals, developing staff, managing performance, and making compensation decisions. The position demands deep expertise in a complex field, with accountability for specialized product development support based on extensive product knowledge and Agile/Scrum processes. The Product Owner II serves as a senior specialist, providing advisory services to executives and business segment leaders, while integrating knowledge of the enterprise function's overarching strategy into program design and policy formulation. The role also involves anticipating emerging business trends and regulatory issues, advising on execution strategy, and leading the development and deployment of functional programs. The Product Owner II is expected to solve unique and ambiguous problems with broad impact, overseeing standards and controls that significantly affect financial and operational outcomes. Engaging stakeholders to take action and serving as a source of expert advice are critical components of this position, as is the ability to influence change and frame information within a broader organizational context.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure development teams are creating value through customer-focused product increments.
  • Align with other Product Owners and senior management to follow a product vision.
  • Create and maintain a prioritized product backlog and manage delivery blockers.
  • Continuously assess customer feedback to maximize product value.
  • Provide people management leadership by hiring, setting goals, and managing performance.
  • Advise executives and business leaders on product development and Agile processes.
  • Integrate knowledge of enterprise strategy into program design and policy formulation.
  • Anticipate emerging business trends and regulatory issues for product improvements.
  • Lead the development and deployment of functional programs or initiatives.
  • Manage delivery initiatives and oversee multiple development team backlogs.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree and/or product certificate required.
  • Graduate degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in product ownership or Agile delivery.
  • 5-7 years of experience as a Product Owner or in Agile related delivery.
  • Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) certification is an asset.
  • Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) certifications or experience is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of business and technology.
  • Ability to influence business and technology stakeholders.
  • Strong control/process design background.
