About the position

The Product Professional is responsible for maximizing the value of the product resulting from the work of the Team. This role is pivotal in leading the development and implementation of Core Certification Tools, which are essential for the DN & DCI payments onboarding process. These tools ensure network reliability and stability, delivering high-performing partner and network applications. The Product Professional supports teams and partners who handle acquirer, issuer, and merchant end-to-end testing and certifications. This includes developing, reviewing, analyzing, documenting, and supporting certification processes while leading Discover's testing strategies with customized vendor tools and systems. In this role, the Product Professional empowers both vendor and in-house delivery teams to identify, manage, and escalate risks effectively. They continually seek to identify gaps and improve processes, ensuring that new products are delivered and innovations are driven on platforms that enhance customer experience, meet customer needs, and create business value. The Product Professional acts as a servant leader, structuring the work for the team and delegating tasks while coaching and mentoring team members. They actively manage and escalate risks and customer-impacting issues to management as part of their day-to-day responsibilities. Key responsibilities include building and maintaining the product backlog, ensuring product features align with regulatory and compliance standards, leading Agile practices, defining product requirements, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to support go-to-market strategies. The role also involves managing project scope, deliverables, and timelines, contributing to product development, and fostering a culture of accountability and ownership within the product team.

Responsibilities

  • Builds product backlog and prioritizes items to achieve Objectives and Key Results (OKRs).
  • Maintains key product documentation such as customer journey maps and technical specifications.
  • Ensures product features align with regulatory, compliance, and risk management standards.
  • Articulates requirements into use cases, agile stories, and acceptance criteria.
  • Leads Agile practices including sprints, planning, execution, and retrospectives.
  • Defines functional and non-functional product requirements and ensures completeness.
  • Executes appropriate testing frameworks for product features.
  • Partners with business technology to create technical features for system optimization.
  • Manages and communicates project scope, deliverables, and timelines.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams to support go-to-market strategies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Engineering, Business Administration, Finance, Mathematics, Economics, Statistics, or related field.
  • 4+ years of experience in Product Management or Engineering in Financial Services or Tech Industry, or related.
  • In lieu of a degree, 6+ years of experience in Product Management or Engineering in Financial Services or Tech Industry, or related.

Nice-to-haves

  • Agile Certification - Certified Scrum Master or Scrum Product Owner.
  • Product Owner experience in the Payments industry.
  • Experience in Authorizations, Settlements, or Disputes.
  • Testing, validation, and monitoring experience.
