About the position

The Product Professional is responsible for maximizing the value of the product resulting from the work of the team. This role is central to delivering new products and driving innovation on platforms that enhance customer experience, meet customer needs, and create business value. The Product Professional prioritizes the team's work to ensure value delivery to customers. Acting as a servant leader rather than a manager, the Product Professional possesses well-rounded job knowledge and plays a crucial role in coaching and mentoring team members. This position involves structuring the work for the team and delegating tasks effectively. The Product Professional will drive innovation specifically on the Payment Services Core Disputes platforms and actively manage and escalate risks and customer-impacting issues that arise in day-to-day operations. Key responsibilities include building and maintaining the product backlog, prioritizing items to achieve Objectives and Key Results (OKRs), and ensuring that the backlog is continuously updated. The Product Professional is tasked with maintaining essential product documentation, such as customer journey maps, technical specifications, and process mappings. They must ensure that product features and processes comply with Discover's regulatory, compliance, and risk management standards, adhering to the highest quality standards, including the timely release of security patches that are not linked to customers. The role requires articulating requirements into use cases, agile stories, and acceptance criteria to ensure compliance, as well as creating and validating user story acceptance criteria. The Product Professional will lead Agile practices, including sprints, planning, execution, and retrospectives, and will hold regular meetings with the product team to keep the product backlog updated. They will define both functional and non-functional product requirements, ensuring completeness and consistency, and will execute appropriate testing frameworks for product features. Collaboration with Data stewards in their respective Lines of Business (LOBs) is essential to identify and implement required data quality controls. The Product Professional will partner with business technology to create technical features necessary for optimizing system components and maintaining underlying infrastructure. They will manage and communicate the scope, deliverables, and timelines of projects through storyboarding and structuring complex information visually. Additionally, the role involves contributing to product development and vision by connecting customer solutions to business goals and delivering Minimum Viable Products (MVPs). The Product Professional will collaborate with cross-functional teams to support go-to-market strategies and foster a culture of accountability and ownership by empowering the product team to make decisions close to the work. They will also partner with vendors and cross-functional partners in the evaluation, development, management, monitoring, and enhancement of assigned products and programs.
