About the position

The Product Specialist 5 (SQL Server DBA) is responsible for managing Microsoft SQL Server Database environments, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and compliance. This role involves working with virtual machine servers, providing technical support, and collaborating with various teams to implement database solutions and improvements. The position requires a proactive approach to database management, including planning, design, configuration, and capacity planning.

Responsibilities

  • Manage Microsoft SQL Server Database environments including virtual machine servers.
  • Ensure best practices in database planning, design, configuration, performance, and capacity planning.
  • Monitor daily activities and performance of complex SQL environments.
  • Provide technical assistance to application development and co-workers regarding SQL design and programming.
  • Configure SQL services such as security, JDBC, and clusters.
  • Plan, install, and coordinate SQL Server releases, migrations, upgrades, and maintenance.
  • Develop technical documents, project plans, and interact with customers for proposed solutions.
  • Provide non-production and production support for deploying code and troubleshooting application issues.
  • Support DevOps tools including Ansible, Jenkins, and others.
  • Lead meetings related to design, implementation, operation, and maintenance of database systems.
  • Design and plan cluster nodes hardware selection and configuration.
  • Monitor load balance and tune cluster parameters for high performance.
  • Implement log shipping and replication configurations.
  • Provide technical leadership that fosters database innovation and automation.
  • Support strategic planning for database architecture and resource management.
  • Evaluate and propose design and process improvements for performance optimization.
  • Identify inefficiencies in current database designs and oversee implementation of improvements.
  • Plan and implement capacity and resource expansion for scalability.
  • Implement risk management controls and ensure compliance with technical standards.
  • Lead incident resolution efforts and engage resources for corrective actions.

Requirements

  • 9+ years of experience as a SQL Server DBA managing MS SQL Server environments.
  • 4 year college degree or equivalent technical study.
  • Experience with virtual machine servers for SQL databases.
  • SQL Server DBA certification is preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Unix, Linux, and AIX operating systems.
  • Familiarity with database security protocols and patching.
