About the position

The Product Team Leader - Manager BE-4 at Blue Origin is responsible for leading a diverse team of engineers focused on the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of propulsion systems, specifically the BE-4 engine. This role requires a commitment to safety and quality in human spaceflight, as well as the ability to mentor team members and manage project workflows effectively. The position plays a crucial role in advancing Blue Origin's mission of enabling millions of people to live and work in space.

Responsibilities

  • Provide programmatic direction and coach a team of dedicated engineers by reviewing technical work and giving actionable feedback.
  • Own business rhythm reviews and communication paths to the IPT Lead, supporting program management and business teams.
  • Manage the complete employee experience including hiring, performance management, and training.
  • Implement effective engineering methods and provide technical guidance to the team.
  • Improve technical processes and tool development around Design for Manufacturability (DfM) and engine development cycles.
  • Lead the team's activities throughout the entire lifecycle of the BE-4 Engine development and operations.
  • Be accountable for the design, planning, and successful development of components and/or subsystems.
  • Provide safe, repeatable, and quality test capabilities for rocket engines.
  • Support the team through anomaly and root cause investigations.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in engineering or science related discipline (aerospace, mechanical, chemical or physics preferred).
  • 8+ years of experience in liquid rocket engine, flight equipment, spacecraft, launch vehicle, or aircraft systems development.
  • Strong technical fundamentals in mechanical design, manufacturing, and materials processing within an AS9100 quality system.
  • Demonstrated experience with Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DfMA).
  • Familiarity with data analysis and data processing.
  • Consistent track record leading teams and maintaining positive, professional relationships.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced Engineering or MBA Degree.
  • Experience with cryogenic control valve and ignition system design.
  • Formal project management training or certification.
  • Experience across multiple portions of the propulsion product life cycle.
  • Experience with human spaceflight or high-performance aircraft systems.
  • Experience with MS Project, Primavera (P6), CREO, Windchill, Confluence, Jira.
