About the position

Universal Instruments is seeking a Product Trainer/Instructional Designer III to join our team in Conklin, NY. This full-time position is integral to our mission of providing advanced automation assembly equipment solutions that are utilized in the production of high-tech gadgets across various industries, including electronics, automotive, military, and medical sectors. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and developing product training and performance support solutions, as well as delivering product training to both internal and external customers. This role also involves supporting our eLearning platform and developing web modules to enhance our training offerings. In this position, you will design and assist in the creation of Universal product training courses and support solutions, ensuring adherence to UIC course design standards. You will participate in product development processes and support planning, defining training deliverables that align with product changes. A key aspect of your role will be to champion ease-of-use and systemic product design/support solutions, continuously improving your knowledge and skills to maintain expertise in all assigned products and courses. You will also be responsible for maintaining Universal Product Trainer Certifications for each assigned course and developing course materials that ensure training effectiveness. As a Product Trainer, you will deliver engaging product training courses with a focus on hands-on student performance, monitor student satisfaction through surveys and feedback, and communicate significant issues to relevant departments. You will independently maintain the classroom, lab, and equipment to ensure they are in working order for effective training delivery. Additionally, you will design and develop engaging content for asynchronous training, collaborating with leadership, product trainers, customers, and subject matter experts. You will manage the end-to-end development cycle of eLearning modules, from defining learning objectives to deploying the final product on a Learning Management System (LMS). Other job-related duties may be assigned as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Design and/or assist with the design of Universal product training courses and/or product support solutions, in accordance with UIC course design standards.
  • Participate in product development processes, product support planning, and define training deliverables.
  • Champion ease-of-use and systemic product design/support solutions where practical opportunities exist.
  • Keep abreast of product changes and continually improve knowledge/skills as necessary to maintain expertise in all assigned products/courses.
  • Maintain Universal Product Trainer Certifications for each assigned course.
  • Develop assigned course materials to ensure training effectiveness and communicate design changes.
  • Deliver product training courses to internal and external customers with a focus on hands-on student performance of course objectives.
  • Monitor student satisfaction through review of student survey data and verbal feedback.
  • Communicate significant issues to the appropriate department and personnel.
  • Independently maintain and/or assist with maintenance of classroom, lab, and equipment to ensure that all are in working order to fully support delivery of training.
  • Design and develop engaging content for asynchronous training, with input from leadership, product trainers, customers, and subject matter experts.
  • Support eLearning team members with design and development of effective instructional web modules.
  • Manage the end-to-end development cycle from supporting defined learning objectives to deploying the final eLearning module on an LMS.
  • Perform other job-related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in education, instructional design, or technical field.
  • 4-7 years of demonstrated technical training and experience in Instructional Design/Development.
  • Detail oriented, independent performer, with a passion for customer service excellence.
  • Able to analyze complex technical information and identify and document the underlying concepts, which can be used to facilitate learning.
  • Familiarity with authoring software such as Storyline 360.
  • Understanding of Learning Management Systems (LMS).
